About Kate
Kate Hamilton, Psy.D. is licensed clinical psychologist practicing in person in NY, virtually CT and FL at CBT for Better Living. She specializes in the treatment of OCD, anxiety-related conditions, mood disorders, emotion regulation difficulties, and trauma-related disorders.
She works with adults and adolescents. Dr. Hamilton utilizes evidence-based cognitive-behavioral therapies, including exposure and response prevention (ERP/ExRP) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT)-informed treatment. She has a particular interest in treating trauma-related disorders and has received intensive training in specialized treatments, such as prolonged exposure (PE).
She is committed to creating a safe, collaborative environment for her clients. Her approach to treatment focuses on nonjudgment, warmth, and genuineness.
Clinical Training
Dr. Hamilton completed her pre-doctoral internship at Center for Anxiety, where she developed skills in utilizing evidence based treatments for adults and adolescents with a wide range of diagnoses, including generalized anxiety disorder, major depressive disorder, panic disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, posttraumatic stress disorder, bipolar disorder, and borderline personality disorder. She provided both individual and group therapies in an outpatient clinic. She co-led weekly DBT skills groups and was involved with the group individualized outpatient program. Dr. Hamilton completed her postdoctoral fellowship at cognitive behavioral consultants where she received extensive training in DBT, CBT, and trauma treatments. She attended foundational trainings and was involved in a weekly DBT homework club and consultation team.
Education & Research
Dr. Hamilton received her Bachelor’s degree with a major in psychology from Lehigh University. She earned a Master’s Degree with a major in forensic psychology from George Washington University. She also earned her Mater’s degree and her Psy.D. from Yeshiva University, Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology.
Dr. Hamilton’s research focuses on sexual victimization. She continues to focus on research related to the #Metoo movement’s impact on beliefs about sexual assault and consent.
