About Dr. Mestechkina

Dr. Tatyana Mestechkina, Ph.D. is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist, practicing in New York, New Jersey, and Florida.

She has particular expertise and interest in using evidence-based treatment for obsessive compulsive spectrum and anxiety disorders. She was trained by a world-renowned expert in Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP/ExRP) the gold-standard of OCD treatment.  She often incorporates mindfulness and acceptance techniques from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to supplement exposure work.

Her approach is active and nonjudgmental. She places importance on creating a trusting environment and encourages open communication to strengthen the therapeutic alliance.

Clinical Training

Dr. Mestechkina completed her clinical internship and post-doctoral fellowship at the Center for Cognitive-Behavioral Psychotherapy, an internationally-known practice that specializes in the evidence-based treatment of OCD and anxiety disorders. There, she was trained and supervised by Dr. Steven Phillipson, an expert in OCD treatment. 

She completed her pre-doctoral externships at Hofstra University’s Student Counseling Services, as well as the Institute for Rational Counseling. Dr. Mestechkina has also treated patients in specialty clinics including the Phobia and Trauma Clinic, Anxiety and Depression Treatment Clinic, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Clinic, Child and Parent Psychotherapy Clinic, and a Forensic Psychology Lab.

Education & Research

Dr. Mestechkina earned her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology and M.A. in Clinical Psychology from Hofstra University, an APA-accredited program and winner of the “Outstanding Training Program” award from the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies (ABCT). She received extensive training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). She has contributed to research in interventions for Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD), body image concerns, Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) development, and cross-cultural parenting. She is a published author and has presented her research at national conferences, including the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies (ABCT), and the Anxiety and Depression Association of America (ADAA).

Teaching & Supervision

Dr. Mestechkina provides clinical supervision and training to licensed and unlicensed clinical psychologists as well as student clinicians. She has taught psychology courses at Long Island University’s Brooklyn Campus, Brooklyn College, and Baruch College.
